Ely City's youth team secured a 3-1 victory over March Town United on November 14.
Ely City's youth team defeated March Town United 3-1 at the Demcom stadium, inspired by Robin Hammond's impressive performance.
In a challenging match against the league's bottom side, Ely dominated the early proceedings, with Hammond being the focal point of their midfield play.
His skilful manoeuvring and precise passing created several opportunities, although initial efforts by Callum Wilkinson and Dylan Ashman were unsuccessful.
Ely took the lead 15 minutes into the game when James Voyce's excellent play set up Ashman.
Despite his shot being blocked, the ball found its way to Wilkinson, who adeptly repositioned himself to score against the March keeper.
March responded swiftly after the kick-off, but Ely's goalkeeper, Reece Hall, managed to thwart their effort.
As the game progressed, March increased their aggression both on and off the ball, attempting to press Ely further up the field but also conceding unnecessary fouls.
One such foul resulted in Ely doubling their lead.
Hammond took a 30-yard free kick, which sailed over the March keeper's reach and into the net for 2-0.
Wilkinson almost made it three shortly afterwards, but his attempt was neatly saved by the Hares' keeper.
Towards the end of the first half, March found the back of the net, but the goal was ruled offside.
In the second half, Ely maintained their lead, with Voyce scoring their third goal from another free kick into the box.
March managed to score a consolation goal with 15 minutes remaining, but Ely continued to press them on the counter-attack.
Despite heavy legs in the last five minutes, Ely held on to their lead, securing a 3-1 victory.
The win is a testament to the young team's skill and determination as they continue their campaign.
