Ely District Cycling Club's cyclocross team started its Eastern League campaign at Springfield Cross, Chelmsford, on September 8.
Despite some early rain before the event started, the course was mostly hard-packed grass with a forest section and two sets of stairs.
First off for the Ely team in the youth U16 class were Harvey Woodroffe and Lucas Bowman.
Both got away well, with Harvey unfortunately dropping a chain early on.
However, he showed great determination by skilfully pulling back through the field, while Lucas maintained his strong summer run of form.
- Harvey Woodroffe (U16): fourth place
- Lucas Bowman (U16): ninth place
The Vet 50-59 class once again fielded an impressive 58 starters, including some new faces moving up from the Vet 40s.
From a second-row start, Neil Bowman got into the mix and had a strong race, finishing tenth.
In the Vet 40-49 class, Simon Pedley came in with great pre-season form, showing impressive efforts and making his way through the pack to finish 15th.
In the Senior class, Joshua Woodroffe started his cross season in strong form, finishing 29th.
The next round is Sunday September 15 in Hackney.
