On Tuesday evening, Ely Robins made the trip to take on fourteenth place team Stowmarket, writes Gary Creak.

Having beaten the league leaders Walsham Le Willows last Saturday (August 31), 3-2 at home, the Robins were in a confident mood.

This showed as Jack Friend broke the home side's defensive line to shoot Ely into a third minute lead.

Stowmarket grew more into the game as the half progressed and the break came at the right time for the Robins with a 1-0 lead.

In the second period Stow put Ely under pressure whilst they defended resolutely, but after a bout of pressure the home side drew level, much to the joy of the majority of the 188 in attendance.

The goal came in at the 82nd minute.

However, the Robins are becoming a hard team to beat and on the 86th minute a close range strike by Alex Theobald put Ely City back in front.

City managed to see out the remaining minutes for back to back wins.

With Fakenham winning their game, they are now level in second place, with two games in hand over Walsham.

On Saturday, September 7, the Robins head to the coast to play the unbeaten Great Yarmouth.
