Oliver Davey, 14, competed at his first national 50m Freestyle event on Wednesday, August 2.
Davey was at the Swim England Age Group Nationals held at Ponds Forge in Sheffield for top English invited swimmers and put on a ‘brilliant’ performance in the heats to achieve a personal best time of 25.77 which earned him a place in the final.
In the final, after another great swim, he finished seventh, improving on his qualification position of eight place. This was the first time for many years that the club had a swimmer competing at Swim England nationals.
Also, Daniel Kendall, 17, qualified for the National Age Group Open Water Swimming Championship for the first time in the 5km event at Rother Valley Country Park, Sheffield on Saturday July 29.
It was a cool and windy day; however Kendall swam strongly, improving the time he swam only three weeks previously at the East Region Open Water qualifying event, he achieved an impressive ninth place in the 17year-old-age group.
