The Mildenhall Fen Tigers have made it five wins from five with a sensational last-heat victory securing a narrow 45-43 win over fellow National Development League (NDL) title contenders Oxford Chargers.
On an afternoon of scintillating speedway, the Fen Tigers' top pairing of Alfie Bowtell and inspirational skipper Lee Complin twice came to the rescue with incredible 5-1s in heats 13 and 15 to secure the most dramatic of victories.
Complin celebrated by diving into the crowd – the showman taking the high fives of exultation from his devoted fans and speaking with great emotion of an incredible comeback.
Complin said: "We never gave up, and when our backs were against the wall, we clubbed together as a team.
"Oxford deserve a great deal of credit for their part in the match – they are a very good side. It was great to do it for our fans, who have been terrific".
Going into the crucial heat 13, the visitors led by four and had, at that point, an undefeated Ryan Kinsley (a former Mildenhall man and West Row circuit specialist) and one of the NDL's top men in Joe Thompson lining up.
However, they faced up against an irresistible Bowtell and Complin paring, with Complin going through an impossible gap to split the Chargers pair and snatch a vital 5-1 heat victory.
That levelled the match at 38-38, but a recurrent electrical fault on one of the Tigers' bikes allowed the Chargers to reprise their lead by two points heading into the final heat.
Again, Bowtell and Complin stormed into an unassailable maximum position and fended off the Chargers to secure a memorable victory.

The Tigers will look to keep their 100 per cent winning record going when they visit the Belle Vue Colts on May 26 in their first NDL away fixture.
The Colts are highly fancied as major opponents for the 2023 NDL title and will pose a tough test.
