A former youth champion and a new club captain are just some of the latest recruits for Mildenhall Fen Tigers after a turbulent time off the track.
Ben Trigger has joined the Fen Tigers after riding for the likes of Plymouth Centurions and Leicester Lion Clubs, alongside 23-year-old George Congreve.
Trigger, from Devon, is a former British 500cc youth champion while Congreve, who rode for Championship side Newcastle last year, will ride in the National Development League (NDL) for the first time.
Speaking on the pair, Mildenhall Fen Tigers’ promotion team said: “George joins on an average which we are very confident he will considerably improve on and we are sure he will prove an exciting addition to the team.
“Ben has already shown he is one of the outstanding talents of his generation, making significant strides last year putting 2.43 onto his average to record a six-point figure for the season.”
Mildenhall have also added two more signings for this year’s NDL campaign, where they look to go one better on their runners-up finish last season.
Alfie Bowtell has returned to the club after riding for the West Row outfit in 2016, when he has since appeared for the likes of Lakeside and Kent Royals.
Bowtell will also become the club’s number one rider.
He will be joined by Lee Complin, who has been named club captain.
Complin made several guest appearances for Mildenhall and his former club Armadale Devils last season.
“Alfie has become one of the absolute top riders in the NDL and we couldn’t be more satisfied that he is returning as our number one,” said Mildenhall’s promoters.
“Lee was an absolute sensation last year and so many seasoned devotees of the sport commenting on how his style of riding was exciting to watch.”
Last week, Mildenhall confirmed they would be riding in this year’s NDL after a fundraising campaign and support from two private sponsors helped the club reach the £15,000 total needed to run.
The decision came when rising costs and dropping crowd numbers were cited as reasons not to commit Mildenhall to the 2023 NDL season at a preliminary meeting in November, before an agreement with the stadium owner was made.
