Groups in Littleport are gearing up for Christmas, says columnist Lyn Gibb-de-Swarte.

Littleport Band came second in the Leicester Contest last Sunday, and horn player Kim Heaver won the cup for the best soloist.

This Thursday, November 28, from 5pm-7.30pm, they play at the Christmas Lights event for the Farmers Network Charity at Thurlow Nunn Standen’s depot in Wisbech Road, CB61RA at 6pm.

As well as carols, there’s mulled wine and mince pies for free, games, kids photos taken on a tractor, and a raffle with prizes from their suppliers.

The Littleport Leisure complex includes the purpose built, wheelchair accessible, Scout and Guide Hut. It is located as you turn into the centre on Camel Road, and this Saturday, November 30, from 8am-12pm, Littleport 1st Scout Group are hosting a Bacon Butty and Egg Roll morning.

All of the money raised goes towards those national and international camps costs, making it cheaper for the children and young people to participate.

Users of the centre’s fields, including those Littleport Parkrun participants who have worked up an appetite after their 9am 5k, and the Littleport Rangers FC Under 16 Navy and Under 13 Navy teams, kick offs at 10am and 10.30am, are sure to be among those patronising this mouth-watering event.

From 11am until 3pm, Littleport Timebank Crafters are holding a Christmas Craft Fair at the Village Hall in Victoria Street.

Enjoy browsing and buying from 20 stalls of unique hand-made gifts, including dog snoods and knitted, beaded items, exclusive glass objects and cakes – with games and a café too.

Saturday night at Littleport Ex-Servicemen’s Club its Atomic, 4-piece band playing late 70s and 80s sounds from 9pm. It will cost £3 for members and £5 for guests.

The Crown Inn has Savannah Love at 8.30pm reprising hit songs of 7 decades, and the Plough and Harrow has The Red Rock and Roll Machine performing tracks like AC/DC classics.

On Tuesday evening, December 3, at 7.30pm, the Littleport Society has a free to attend Littleport extravaganza.

Christmas Carols by the Littleport Community Singers and a free to enter prize quiz, plus a prize tombola and tea, coffee, biscuits and mince pies, promises a fun time at Littleport Village Hall.
