This week the Ely Standard launches its 2024 Christmas Appeal and we have chosen to support the Ely Christmas Toy Bank.
Since 2022, the Ely Christmas Toy Bank has done amazing work in the community to support families who are struggling to afford presents for their children.
In the coming weeks we will be taking a look at the work that goes into the Ely Christmas Toy Bank and how volunteers make sure that no child goes without.
We will also be speaking to the faces behind the Toy Bank, including Peter Harris, who set up the group in 2022.
Peter Harris was an Ely city councillor, and during that time he came into contact with lots of families who struggled with the cost-of-living and felt under extra pressure at Christmas.
With this in mind, he set about launching an initiative to families the extra support they need in the festive season.
He said: "In 2022 and 2023 we have been overwhelmed by the generosity of the community, individuals and organisations who have gotten behind the idea."
Ely Standard Editor, Debbie Davies, said: "We are delighted to be supporting this wonderful cause and the work of the hard-working and dedicated volunteers who bring joy to children, and alleviate worry for parents.
"Please support this wonderful appeal."
