Waste not want not could be Littleport’s civic motto, says columnist Lyn.
And with Remembrance Sunday and Armistice Day, commemorated on the 11th day of the 11th month at 11am, still in our thoughts, we also remember those here at home in wartime.
They were exhorted to “make do and mend”, and this embedded itself in Littleport’s psyche – rich or poor, they did, and we all still do.
There’s a huge recycling event from 2-5pm this Saturday 16 at the village hall (CB6 1LX) that’s bound to be popular, courtesy of the Littleport and Ely Timebank and Littleport Repair Café.
Repairs are offered for phones, electrical gadgets, computers and bicycles for a suggested donation of £5, and there is a tabletop sale of second-hand goods too.
Refreshments with tea and cake, another Littleport staple, are available for the thirsty or peckish.
Timebank secretary Chris Bennett says, “Bring any household item, jewellery or some sewing. In fact, we will try to mend anything!”
Book your repair through our phone 07359851246 or for more info call Stephen Cole, 07776201813.
