The city of Ely is preparing two events to commemorate Remembrance Sunday and Armistice Day to pay tribute to the lives lost in war.
A Service of Remembrance will take place in Ely Cathedral on Sunday, November 10 at 10:30am. Afterwards, there will be a march through Ely City, a parade, and an Act of Remembrance in the Market Square. The salute will be taken by the Lord Lieutenant.
Before the Service of Remembrance at Ely Cathedral, a parade will take place at the Porta Gate in Barton Square, which will consist of the Royal British Legion, including Veterans and Serving Personnel, the City of Ely Military Band, Standards, Various Uniformed Units, Cadet Forces and other youth organisations.
The parade will march off at 10am along the Gallery towards the Cathedral, to be seated for the Service of Remembrance at 10:15am.
There will be a two minute silence at 11am, followed by a poppy fall from the Lantern Tower. At the end of the service the marching groups will form up outside of the Cathedral to march towards the Market Place via Minister Place and the High Street.
A wreath laying will take place at Ely War Memorial, which will conclude with a two minute silence and a march past the War Memorial, where the salute will be taken by the Lord Lieutenant.
On Monday, November 11, there will be a short service at Ely War Memorial, in Market Place, to commemorate the signing of the Armistice on November 11, 1918.
Monday's service will include a two minute silence at 11am, and the laying of wreaths by the Mayor of Ely, the East Cambridgeshire District Council Chairman and the President of the City of Ely Royal British Legion Branch.
Everyone is welcome to both events, and Spotted in Ely will be livestreaming the events on Sunday.
