A dangerous driver from East Cambridgeshire has been sentenced for leading police on a three-minute pursuit through Cambridge.
On December 27 last year, officers from the Road Policing Unit were on patrol in Cambridge when they spotted a white Nissan Kubistar that they suspected was uninsured.
The force activated blue lights and sirens to signal to the driver, Bobby Loveridge, to pull over. Instead, he accelerated and reached speeds of more than 50mph along residential streets in Cambridge.
The 32-year-old overtook multiple vehicles, went head on into oncoming traffic and went through two red lights. He eventually lost control and crashed into a metal fence on Mill Road.
At Cambridge Crown Court on Tuesday (October 22), Loveridge, of Cophall Drove, Little Downham, was sentenced to a year in prison, suspended for two years after pleading guilty to dangerous driving, driving without a licence, driving without insurance and possession of a class A drug.
He must also carry out 200 hours unpaid work and has been disqualified from driving for three years when he must take an extended retest.
PC Freddie Tomalin, from the Road Policing Unit, said: "Loveridge demonstrated a complete disregard for the safety of other road users when he sped through built-up residential areas in such a reckless manner.
"Thankfully no one was injured by his display of driving that afternoon, but that is no thanks to him.
"Our message is clear, we will not tolerate people to break the law by driving vehicles in a manner that puts other road users, and themselves, at risk of serious injury or death."
