There is always plenty to do in Littleport, says columnist Lyn Gibb-de Swarte

Littleport is an attractive proposition for many out-of-towners who visit regularly to take advantage of its excellent services.

Entertainment venues abound, and there are so many sport and leisure opportunities at the fantastic Littleport Leisure Centre in Camel Road.

The other day, Kayley Lane, the mother of one of Ely Roller Skating Club’s competitive members - the club that’s based at Littleport Leisure Centre - commented: "It’s a perfect place for the girls to train.

"The cafe offers much-needed refreshments, and the gym facilities are very convenient for parents to use whilst the kids skate."

Last weekend in Great Yarmouth, club members did well in the Roller Cup competitions.

Kayley’s daughter, Charlotte Clarke, came second overall, Sophia Carter second overall, Keira Clifford second overall, Ellie Bennet second overall, Alisha Turner third Free Dance, and Cathy King is now Senior British Champion, while Hattie Williams claimed third place. Coached by Sophie Woodbridge, every ERSC skater came back with a medal.

Although there is a serious side, there’s fun too, and this Saturday morning it’s a public Fun Skate time 9.15 – 10.55 for £5.

Also at the Centre, the Football Fun Factory is open, with Nathan Mitchell and Grant Buchan of Littleport Town FC, it has a tots session for two to five-year-olds, from 9am-10.30am.

The churches too all offer various social activities for all-comers. This Saturday October 26 St George’s Parish Church hosts a free concert by the Hartlip Singers, from 2pm-4pm with a guest appearance by the Littleport Community Singers.

The Vine Community Church in Globe Lane has a coffee morning every Thursday, from 10.30am to 12pm and the Men’s Shed at the Hangar next door is from 9am-12pm £2 per session.

The Supporters of Highfield Littleport Academy host a Hallowe’en Prize Bingo at Littleport Leisure Centre Friday October 25, from 6.30pm for 7pm start. There’s a prize for the best fancy dress too!
