Interesting times ahead for top Littleport venues, says columnist Lyn

As Littleport starts to think about what’s happening by way of something nice to do in the coming week – and with Christmas suddenly looming large, as it does prior to Halloween - it can also look back at more recent happy events.

Speaking of which, there’s a secret hidden in this week’s picture of the Littleport Town FC (established 1906) taken end of September after their kit was sponsored by The Crown Inn.

On the left is pub doyen Sara Alexander and on the right landlord for 15 years Rob Clarey.

But the lady standing next to him is in fact the incoming landlady of the Crown, its popular barmaid for nine years, Sally Spencer.

Sally is looking forward to taking over the helm with her family on board from Monday October 28.

She tells us: “My lad Archie is a bartender. My daughter Gem is on the media and advertising side, and my partner Steve is looking after the maintenance etc.”

Everyone is invited to Sara’s leaving party at The Crown - 6pm on Sunday 27 - and vocal act Stephanie is entertaining from 7pm.

The night before, Saturday 26, there’s a Halloween Disco with prizes for the best fancy dress.

Also, Sunday 27, the annual Children’s Halloween Disco with Intercity is at the Littleport Ex-Servicemen’s Club 4-7pm. Tickets £2 pp from the club in advance only.

And this Saturday, October 19, at 8.30pm, its Stepback Duo back by popular demand £3 members £5 guests.

The New Plough & Harrow at 61 Ely Road is going great guns, and looking ahead to Christmas is taking bookings for your parties.

Steve says: “From November 21 on, whether works or private for just a delicious meal through to a classic party with DJ and lights, we have an option to suit you.”

Back to this weekend’s forthcoming attractions, and Saturday 19 at the Plough the amazing and local band The Offbeats with lead singer Lucy Jane Skipper will be wowing its clientele with ska, reggae, and mod music from 9pm.
