Cambridgeshire Fire Service has issued a warning to chimney owners after one caught on fire in East Cambridgeshire this week.

Crews from Burwell and Newmarket were called to the High Street in Soham on October 10 after reports came in of a chimney on fire.

A spokesperson for Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue Service said: "At 6.47pm on Thursday a crew from Burwell along with Newmarket (Suffolk) were called to a chimney fire on High Street Soham."

A small gear and a hose reel were used to extinguish the fire, and crews were able to return to their stations by 8:10pm.

Following the fire, the service have now issued a warning to all chimney owners to ensure they get their chimneys cleaned.

A spokesperson warned: "Please ensure that you get your chimney swept and brick work inspected regularly, at least once a year.

"The debris build up in the flue can be set alight, which could cause a significant fire. Regular chimney maintenance will help prevent this from happening."
