The Rotary Club of Ely has welcomed a new member.

On Thursday, October 3, the club inducted Michelle Webster, a former senior sociology lecturer.

Ms Webster, a former Wilburton resident now living in Ely, aims to serve the community and make productive use of her time.

The previous week, the club had a discussion led by Cilla and Gemma on Ely Baby Bank.

The baby bank, a project chosen by the club's President, Viv Doji, has been operational for four years.

With around 200 similar groups across the country, it has 35 active volunteers who sort donations for children up to 18 months old.

The baby bank offers goods like baby clothes, bedding, toys, books, and limited buggies, milk, and nappies, all free of charge.

The operation is funded through recycling unsuitable items and does not rely on government funding.

Since its start, the baby bank has grown from assisting 300 visitors in 2020 to an expected 5,000 in 2024, including visitors from as far as Suffolk and Norwich.
