A former post office in Lode is set to be turned into a home after it closed nearly a year ago.
The old post office and shop on the ground floor of the building is due to be incorporated as a living space into the rest of the existing home at 24 High Street.
The post office closed in November 2023 and the application to turn it into a living area said the company was no longer interested in having a branch in the village.
The plans submitted to East Cambridgeshire District Council said: “The floor area subject to the change of use is a small area within an existing building that is otherwise used as a dwelling.
“The Post Office no longer wish to keep a branch in Lode and the change of use will ensure that the space has a logical and sustainable long-term use.”
The application was assessed by planning officers at the district council, who concluded the conversion could go ahead.
A report published by the authority said: “The proposed change of use would result in the existing post office [and] shop floor area becoming part of the existing dwelling at the site and used as living space.
“The application proposes no change to the access arrangements to the site and no changes to the public highway.
“It is considered that the change of use would not result in any adverse impacts to highway safety and would provide safe site access.
“In fact, the transport impact of the development is likely to be reduced given the loss of the shop, which would have previously attracted customers.”
