Soham Community Group

Members of the Monday Club got together once again at The Causeway Centre on the morning of September 23.

On arrival refreshments were served before the club became a hive of activity preparing bunting for the Pumpkin Fair, which is celebrating its 50th Anniversary. The club has won the best dress stall for the last two years. 

 Lunch was served, and birthday greetings were sung to Brian George. He was presented with a gift of his favourite shandy and some biscuits. Carol Sennett thanked all the attendees for their contributions for the pumpkin fair stall and continued support for prizes for the raffle.

Ann Fleet organised the raffle assisted by Carol Sennett giving out the prizes. The prizes were donated by Andrew Fleet. Refreshments were served, and this was followed by games of bingo with Claire White calling the numbers, assisted by Jean Gammon checking the books and giving out the prizes.

Community Care Coffee morning

On the morning of September 24, 16 people met with Roger Holliday and David Jaye in The Pavilion. During the morning, Roger organised the raffle. Coffee mornings take place on Tuesdays, from 9am to 11am.

Comrades Club Bingo

On the evening of September 24, 25 people met in the Comrades Club for an evening of Bingo. During the break for refreshments, the raffle took place. More members would be very welcome. Doors open at 7pm, for eyes-down at 7.30pm.

Trefoild Guild

Olive Wilson welcomed everyone to the recent meeting of the Trefoild Guild at Soham Library. Members were set a challenge to make something relating to the sky which resulted in a kite. Refreshments were served and it was announced that members have been invited to lunch at the Jarman Centre on October 8.

Over 60s Club

Members of the club met in The Pavilion on the afternoon of September 27. Ruth Ginn welcomed everyone and birthday greetings were sung to Christine Brown.

Ruth welcomed the Breckland Bell Ringers who gave an excellent afternoon's entertainment playing a variety of musical numbers.

Members showed their appreciation with a round of applause. Ruth gave them a donation and a collection tin was sent round. All proceeds are for the East Anglian Air Ambulance.

Refreshments were served, followed by the raffle with Richard Badcock. The meeting closed with the singing of the club hymn.

Methodist News

Everyone enjoyed an excellent tea which was held in the Methodists Church Hall on the afternoon of September 25. The next event is on October 23, from 2.30pm to 4.30pm. Everyone welcome. Please book your place with Lesley Watchorn on: 01353 721669.

The next coffee morning is on Friday, October 12, from10am till midday. Everyone welcome.

Royal British Legion (Ely)

The Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the City of Ely Branch Royal British Legion will be held at 7pm on October 15 at the West End House Pub, in West End, Ely. 

Following on from the AGM and election of officers, a normal branch meeting will be held.

Any member who wishes to stand for election onto the committee should notify the branch chairman or secretary beforehand.

 All current and potential branch members are welcome to attend.

Coffee Morning Fordham

The Macmillan Coffee Morning held at St Peter & St Mary Magdalene Church on September 27th raised £440 for the charity.

It was a wonderful turnout. The church wishes to thank everyone who attended and supported the event, in addition to all those who provided cake helped out.

Fordham History

The next Fordham History event will be held on Saturday, October 12 at the Fordham Bowls Clubhouse on the Sports Ground, at 2pm.

This will be a 'Horticulture Special' covering the 'history of the local garden club, the early village flower shows and the flower and fruit tree growing Industry from the 1930s'. Photos will be show on a big screen and afternoon tea will be served. All welcome.
