The Cambridgeshire Repair Café Network are set to return to Ely in October.

The Repair Café will be back at Ely Library on Saturday, October 26 ready to help people save money and support the environment.

The initiative is for anyone who owns something broken that does not know how to fix it, but cannot bring themselves to throw it away.

The Café accepts electronics, like toasters and kettles, as well as toys, jewellery, jeans, and even computers.

The team, which is made up of experienced volunteers, repair items for free. They pinpoint the problem there and then and do their best to fix it on the day.

If they are unable to fix it on the day, they will let you know what spare parts you will need to bring it back next time.

The Repair Café was first in Ely in January 2024, where they had a "hugely successful" day.

At the start of the year the volunteers repaired 26 items in one day. They saved 69kg of waste and 230kg of CO2 emissions - which is the equivalent to growing four trees over 10 years.

A spokesperson for the Cambridgeshire Repair Café Network said: "Repair Cafes don’t just save money and reduce waste, they also bring people together.

"Our repairers are keen to share their skills, stop things going to landfill and reduce the impact that buying new stuff has on the environment."

The team are looking for volunteers and repairers to help out with their upcoming return to Ely. If you are interested, you can get in touch at: info@elyrepaircafe.org.uk

They will be on hand at Ely Library between 11am and 2pm. While there is no guarantee that everything can be fixed, the repairers always try their best to make sure items can be returned to their original state.
