Lyn Gibb-de Swarte talks fun and fundraising in the local area in her weekly column.

I suppose to any observer this town must appear to have an absolute penchant for any kind of get-together that seems to begin in childhood.

All manner of group activities, different sports, including sessions for babies, tots football to first team membership, scouting, crafting, putting on and visiting talks and exhibitions, coffee mornings and just generally socialising with friends and neighbours goes on apace, which is not, you will agree, a bad thing.

Take this coming week as an example, on Saturday October 5 in the morning, 9.30am to 11.30am, there is a drop-in at St John’s Methodist Church in High Street.

In the afternoon at Adams Heritage Centre in Main Street, Timebank and Adams Crafting Group meet from 2-4pm.

Info: Sukie Hoyle 01353 860140. And both are free.

Saturday night the Littleport Ex-Servicemen’s Club has rock n roll and country music with Living the Dream. £3 members, £5 guests. (Under 12’s not admitted.)

The Crown Inn has classic 70’s band Highway Star. On Sunday, the aptly named Friendship Group with facilitator Kathryn Buck (07904817941) are at the Village Hall in Victoria Street 2-4pm welcoming over 65’s for refreshments, cakes, free raffle often bingo and a singsong – all for £2.

On Monday (7th) from 10-11.30am at the Littleport Child and Family Centre based at Littleport Community Primary School, Parsons Lane CB61JT, activity for mobile babies and toddlers - and on Tuesday at the same location, 10-11.30am there’s fun-filled sensory sessions for pre-mobile babies.

For older residents the Town Lands Charity offers a sociable coffee morning at Feoffees Hall 28 City Road from 10am – midday. More info: 07470986660.

The other thing about Littleport is combining fun with fundraising for sundry good causes.

Last week Littleport Bowls Club raised £230 for Motor Neurone Disease Association in memory of Jean Sadler with its bingo event and the quiz at Littleport Ex-Servicemen’s Club raised £154 for Dementia UK and £22 for Guide Dogs.

The Macmillan coffee morning raised £550 and last Wednesday’s bingo night netted £322 and the total is £1,702 so far.
