A fun day and dog show organised as part of a campaign to make child headstones more affordable for families has raised more than £1,000.

Kira Partner and Kieran Power from Stretham hosted the Finley Family Fun Day and Dog Show in Little Thetford on Sunday September 8 in memory of their son Finley George who died suddenly at just six weeks old.

It was the couple's latest fundraising endeavour after establishing the Finley George Fund in a bid to support bereaved families unable to afford headstone for their child.

Kira, 26, and Kieran 29, set up the fund after realising how expensive it was to purchase their desired headstone following the burial of Finley.

The couple were eventually able to afford the memorial with financial support from their families but they knew not all parents would be in the same situation.

Kira told the Ely Standard: "Despite the rainy start, we had the most amazing day raising money for The Finley George Fund.

"I am delighted to say we raised more than £1,000, which will enable us to reach out to families to offer our support in the purchase of their child's memorial.

"It was an amazing first big event for us, with a dog show, soft play, demonstrations, games and much more.

She added: "It means so much to us to have your ongoing support, as you know this charity is all in memory of our beautiful Finley, who would have turned five on the September 9.

"I feel that we have honoured Finley's memory so well and I have you all to thank for that. I look forward to seeing you all at our events in the future."

The family will be holding a Bingo event at The Red Lion in Stretham on September 19. For more information contacted FinleysFund@outlook.com or call 07522 899092.
