Hundreds of residents in an East Cambridgeshire town were left with low pressure or no water at all last weekend.

A number of households across Soham were provided with deliveries of bottled water on Sunday August 25 as engineers scrambled to restore supplies after a burst water main.

Anglian Water said as many as 200 properties had seen their running water disrupted for up to four hours, with some households waiting more than a day for their supply to be restored.

Other areas believed to be affected, included Stuntney, Little Thetford and Wicken.

In an update to customers at 11.17am on Tuesday (August 27), the water company said: "Thanks for your patience – we’re happy to say that the water supply in A142, Soham should be back to normal. We’re really sorry for the disruption.

"Don’t worry if your water looks cloudy or discoloured. This is something that can happen after an interruption to your water supply, but it’s either air in the water or iron sediment that has been stirred up.

It added: "It’s completely safe to drink and will clear after running your tap for a short while. Once again, we’re sorry and really grateful for your patience and understanding."

A spokesperson for Anglian Water told the Ely Standard: "We're sorry some customers in Soham may have had low pressures or no water at all this weekend.

"This was due to a burst pipe which initially impacted around 200 households. Our teams worked hard to restore their supply within four hours, and an additional 12 households were provided with deliveries of bottled water until theirs was restored yesterday (Monday 26 August).

"We appreciate having no water - especially during a bank holiday weekend - isn't ideal, and we'd like to thank our customers for their patience whilst we completed this essential work."
