Yvonne Long reports from community groups in Soham.
Soham Community Group
On the morning of Monday, July 15, members and volunteers of the Monday Club left Soham by coach and headed down to Felixstowe.
They arrived in Felixstowe at 10.45am and made there way to the HUT ,which they had rented for the day. When everyone had settled, refreshments were served.
The sun was shining when they arrived and some of the members sat outside and other enjoyed a paddle in the sea.
Everyone enjoyed a fish and chip lunch and ice cream from a nearby kiosk. Many of the members hadn’t seen the sea in years and really enjoyed the views.
Refreshment was served once again before the coach picked everyone up at 3pm for the journey home.
This whole day was kindly paid for by Clara Day. Thanks also must go to Carol and her team of volunteers for arranging this lovely day out.
Community Care Coffee Morning
On the morning of Tuesday, July 16, Roger Holliday and David Jaye were pleased to welcome 19 people to the coffee morning in The Pavilion.
Everyone enjoyed the good company, chatting and catching up on the latest news. During the morning, Roger organised the raffle. New members always welcome to the session which takes place from 9am till 11am on Tuesdays.
Comrades Club Bingo
On the evening of Tuesday, July 16, 25 people got together in the Comrades Club for an evening of bingo.
One member celebrated her birthday and birthday greetings were sung to her. During the break, everyone enjoyed a piece of cake. There was also a raffle.
New members always welcome to these bingo sessions. Doors open at 7pm for eyes-down 7.30pm.
Over 60s Club
Ruth Ginn welcomed everyone to the club on a very warm Friday afternoon. Attendance was depleted possibly due to the heat.
The speaker for the afternoon was Val a social prescriber based at the Staploe Health Centre.
Her short talk entitled 'Advice on Daily Living' was both interesting and informative. There were lots of leaflets on this subject for members to take home.
Following her talk, members asked Val lots of questions. Ruth gave the vote- -of-thanks and refreshments were served. Roger Holliday organised the raffle and the meeting closed with the singing of the club hymn.
New members are welcome at the club and meetings take place in The Pavilion on Friday afternoons, from 2pm till 4.30pm.
