Former Ely and East Cambridgeshire MP Lucy Frazer sends a farewell message to Ely Standard readers.

"As I leave my role as the local Member of Parliament following the General Election, I wanted to thank everyone for their support over the past nine years.

"I have been honoured to serve as your representative in the House of Commons and I feel privileged to have been able to contribute to both our area and our country.

"At a local level, I am proud that we have improved our infrastructure by building the Ely bypass, securing a new station for Soham and safeguarding many bus routes.

"Together, we saved the Princess of Wales Hospital and will soon see the new Cancer Research Hospital and Children’s Hospital on the Addenbrooke’s site.

"We also got East Cambridgeshire to be recognised as an education ‘opportunity area’ which has delivered more funding for our schools.

"Nationally, I am pleased to have had the opportunity to contribute to the improvement of our justice system, our planning system, our tax system and, most recently, the creative industries as Secretary of State in the Department for Culture, Media and Sport.

"It has been an honour to have worked with you all."
