An East Cambridgeshire family has raised £100,000 in 10 months following the death of their son who "smiled and danced his way through cancer treatment".

Just George was established last September by Lisa and David Radcliffe, the parents of Isleham boy George as they entered his end-of-life care.

Now the fund's champions are asking supporters to celebrate them reaching the huge fundraising milestone.

George was just three-years-old when he was diagnosed with rhabdomyosarcoma; a soft tissue tumour.

He underwent chemotherapy, radiotherapy and surgery but the tumour grew back, despite George being on maintenance chemotherapy,

The Just George fund works in aid of the Children’s Cancer and Leukaemia Group (CCLG), raising vital funds.

CCLG are experts in Childhood Cancer, bringing together Paediatric Oncologist, researchers, samples, families with lived experiences and crucial funding to find kinder and more effective treatments for childhood cancer.

George took his last breath in October last year, while a group of fundraisers were climbing the National Three Peaks for him.

However, supporters continue to find creative and challenging ways to raise money, to show their support.

Assured Retail Services have been raise funds for Just George by creating personalised merchandise that bears the charity's name to "get people talking about childhood cancer."

Lisa said: "Celebrating this huge milestone is important so that our supporters know their part in raising the money, no matter how small, has been impactful.

"Every post shared, event attended, raffle ticket sold, slice of cake bought, challenge signed up to and merchandise bought and worn is helping us to achieve our goal.

"Just George and its supporters are raising crucial funds for research into childhood cancer and in turn raising vital awareness."

Meanwhile, local business Busy Bee Recruitment selected Just George a their charity of the year, after a local poll.

CCLG’s fundraising manager, Lizzie Goates, added: "Childhood cancers are biologically different to adults cancers.

"Lots of children and young people are reliant on old-fashioned treatments that cause serious, long-term health problems and aren’t always effective.

"Every penny that you have helped raise will be going directly towards a research project, looking to develop kinder and more effective treatments for all children diagnosed with rhabdomyosarcoma."

CCLG will now scrutinise project proposals that have the potential to make a difference to children diagnosed with rhabdomyosarcoma.

Lisa said the drive to support children in the future is what keeps her and David going after such a traumatic and painful time.

She added: "George would have been so proud. He loved supporting others and cheering people on.

"We have no doubt that he would have celebrated this milestone with a boogie to George Ezra and “you got this”
