Ely Cathedral Gabrieli Roar summer concert on July 24

As part of youth music project Gabrieli Roar, students will sing Verdi's Requiem on July 24.

Among those taking part are pupils from Chesterton Community College and Sawston Village College.

Catherine Wilson, head of music at Chesterton Community College, said: “We can’t wait to join Gabrieli Roar once again for this summer’s residential course.

"It’s an outstanding experience for our students, both musically and socially.

"They are looking forward to the opportunity to sing as part of a huge massed choir and large symphony orchestra, and to tackling challenging repertoire in the inspiring surroundings of Ely Cathedral."

The event is the grand finale of a summer residential course from July 19-24h at Gresham's School, Norfolk.

The initiative was founded by globally recognised conductor Paul McCreesh who said: “I can’t tell you how excited I am to work with a new cohort of young singers.

"Each year, they excel in these great choral masterpieces and I’m proud of their hard work and boundless enthusiasm.

"It’s a real honour to stand on the stage in front of them.”

Recently, Gabrieli Roar was granted £1m from the Vinehill Trust to involve almost 30,000 youth in choral singing over the next five years.

Recently, Gabrieli Roar was granted £1m from the Vinehill Trust to involve almost 30,000 youth in choral singing over the next five years.

As part of this nationwide expansion, Roar will later tour 11 symbolic cathedrals in a programme titled 'A Grand Georgian Christmas,' serving as a platform for 5000 young singers from Cambridgeshire and other parts of the UK.
