The City of Ely Council, Visit Ely and Ely branch of the Royal British Legion commemorated the 80th anniversary of D-Day today (June 6).
A service was held at the Ely War Memorial followed by laying of wreaths to commemorate those who gave their lives for freedom.
At 7.45pm, a beacon lighting ceremony will take place in St Mary's Street.
The Visit Ely events team said: "This is a very special day in Ely and day to commemorate the heroism involved.
"Our evening event represents a beacon of light for the nation, during such a dark period of war. Please do support the organisers by attending."
