Ely Photographic Club is celebrating a special milestone when its new season gets underway later this year – 50 years since it was founded.

To mark the occasion, the club is arranging exhibitions of its members’ work with framed prints also available to buy.

One of the exhibitions will be a month-long and held in September at Babylon Arts at the Waterside in Ely.

There will also be a week-long exhibition in October held at The Yard by Silver Oak in Newham Street.

Exact dates for both are to be confirmed.

In the meantime, a wide selection of the club members’ impressive work is featured in this week’s Amateur Photography Magazine.

Among the images is this stunning image titled ‘Ely Cathedral in the Mist’ by member Glynis Pierson.

Ely Photographic Club was founded in 1974 and currently has just over 40 members. Its season officially takes place between September and May.

Members meet on Wednesday evenings during the school term time between 7:30pm-9:30pm at Adelaide Hall, in Ely College.

Meetings that involve an external speaker or a presentation from further afield are held over Zoom.

The club offers a wide variety of support for amateur photographers, including basic training in post-processing as well as talks and presentations to inspire their work.

Members can also enter club competitions, both in print and digital photography, and get feedback on their work from external judges.

More advanced photographers can enter inter-club, national and international competitions.

Potential new members are also offered three meetings on a trial basis before committing.

Membership price is £60 a year and pro-rata rates are available for those joining during the season.
