A General Election will be held on July 4, Prime Minister Rishi Sunak announced yesterday.
As part of Ely Standard's General Election coverage, we'll be speaking to candidates about their priorities for Ely and East Cambridgeshire.
Standing for the Conservatives is Lucy Frazer, the MP for South East Cambridgeshire since 2015.
She currently serves as the Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport since February 2023,
Asked about her priorities for Ely and East Cambridgeshire, she said: "If I were given the privilege to serve the people of Ely and East Cambridgeshire into the future, I would focus on six issues.
"Firstly, I will improve local healthcare by building on the progress achieved by expanding services at the Princess of Wales, GP surgeries and pharmacies.
"I'll deliver more youth opportunities as I have done with more local sports pitches and the expansion of Bishop Laney Sixth Form.
"Reducing crime beyond the 24% drop in neighbourhood crime since 2019 and following the expansion of our rural crime team
She added: "I will secure better bus services including new routes and fixing our roads, by holding the county council accountable for their use of significant new government funds.
"And support faster broadband, by supporting the completion of Project Gigabit."
