A student from Soham Village College swept to victory last week at the annual Schools Debating Competition.
Joshua Sargent was one of two finalists chosen by MP Lucy Frazer to compete with six other local schools in the Houses of Parliament.
Linton Village College, Witchford Village College, Soham Village College, Impington Village College, and Ely College took part in two debates as part of the competition.
The competition was judged by Victoria Prentis, the attorney general.
The whole team then enjoyed a personal tour of parliament, including the House of Commons from Lucy Frazer, who offered them inside knowledge on parliamentary procedures.

Commenting on his victory, Josh said: “It was a great opportunity to be able to debate such an interesting and current topic with brilliant people in an amazing location.
“From preparing for the debate I learnt a lot about functional numeracy in this country and improved my research and presentation skills more broadly. Thank you again to everyone involved in organising the competition.”
Miranda Wild, teacher at Soham Village College, added: ''I am so proud of every member of the debate team's efforts this term.
“They have all showed incredible independent and collaborative work throughout many lunchtime sessions which has seen them all improve their debating styles and personal confidence throughout the term.
“Seeing all of their hard work pay off with the first-place win in the Houses of Parliament was the ultimate victory.”
