Amnesty Talk

Ely City's Amnesty group is holding a free talk at the Methodist Church Hall, Ely, on Tuesday, April 9.

The group will ask 'why are 3,000 people still in prison serving sentences that were abolished in 2012'?

Professor Nicky Padfield KC (Hon) will discuss the Imprisonment for Public Protection (IPP) sentence: its creation in 2003 in the context of other ‘life’ sentences, its evolution, and why there are still so many prisoners serving an IPP; the majority of them held for at least 10 years beyond the end of their minimum term.

The talk will begin at 7pm and will last for approximately 40 minutes, after which the audience is welcome to ask questions. No charge for the talk, but donations to support the work of Amnesty International are appreciated.
