Work is taking place to put up the giant observation wheel in Cambridge as the visitor attraction returns for another year.
The 36metre high big wheel has become a regular feature on Parker’s Piece over the summer months for the last few years.
The visitor attraction has been met with backlash from some in the city, with over 80 objections being lodged against giving it planning permission a couple of years ago.
Cambridge City Council granted planning permission in 2022 for the observation wheel to be put up in Parker’s Piece for four years.
Work is allowed to begin setting the wheel up from March 22, and it has to be taken down by September 10.
The permission allows for it to be open to the public to ride between April 1, and August 31.
The observation wheel is also expected to return later this year as part of the Christmas market planned for Parker’s Piece.
Last year planning permission was granted by the city council for a new Christmas event at the park after the previous organisers of the annual ‘North Pole’ event pulled out.
The new Christmas event is due to be held later this year and according to the plans presented to councillors last year it will include the observation wheel as well.
