A 2004 archaeological dig opposite the village hall proved that Romans lived in Victoria Street, Littleport.

But we know that people have lived there ever since they left.

One thing is sure, that in every age, whether pagan through to monotheistic, all Littleport’s residents have joyfully marked the coming of spring.

After this weekend of festivities, on Tuesday April 2 at 7pm in the village hall, the Littleport Society invite you to a free talk by town crier Mike Wabe.

The topic will be peasant life and a soldier’s lot in medieval Britain – with household items and weaponry on display too.

On Wednesday 3 from 6.30-7.30pm at Littleport Bowls Club, 26a Hempfield Place invites you to come along and try the lawn bowls game – equipment supplied.

Easter is celebrated with services at St George’s 14th century parish church, St John’s Methodist 19th century church in High Street, and the 20th century Vine Community Church in Globe Lane.

Catholic worshippers have to go to St Etheldreda’s in Egremont Street, Ely. Secular celebrations abound too. And Littleport Leisure and its welcoming management team offers a lot of fun.

On Saturday 30, the popular Littleport parkrun assembles at the front of the centre and its neighbours, the Vista Academy, and the Silver Artsmark award-winning Highfield Littleport Academy, for a 9am start.

Inside, Nathan Mitchell’s Football Fun Factory for tots, 2-5year-olds, runs from 9-10.30am. (there are sessions for all age groups.) Info:07770882042.

After the fun skate roller skating session from 9.30-10.45am, Ely Roller Skating Club is holding an Easter egg hunt/fun day from 11am – 3pm with Easter crafts, homemade cakes, a raffle with great prizes, guess how many eggs in a jar and name the bunny competition as well as soft play.

In the evening, The Crown Inn has a fantastic group of four - The Time Warps - playing and singing all the hits from the 1960s through to 2024 at 9pm. And, Sunday night from 8-11.30pm, it’s karaoke.
