Soham Community Group

On the morning of Monday, March 11, volunteers welcomed members to the Monday Club in The Causeway centre.

Refreshments were served and Lily the Pat dog and her owner Angela were welcomed. The speaker was Teresa, from the Ely Cats Protection. She gave a very informative and interesting account of her work.

She told the group that Cats Protection is looking for more foster homes. Dinner was served and there was a raffle. 

Thelma Everitt celebrated her birthday and everyone sang birthday greetings. Refreshments were served and games of bingo were played with Claire White calling the numbers assisted by mum Jean checking the books. Prizes donated by Andrew Fleet.

Community Care Coffee Morning

On the morning of Tuesday, March 12, members and friends of the club met at the Cherry Tree where they enjoyed a free lunch. Thanks are extended to Roger and David for arranging the lunch.

Comrades Club 

An evening of bingo was enjoyed with about 30 people who meet each week in the Comrades Club on a Tuesday evening.

During the break for refreshments, the raffle was organised. New members always welcome. Doors open at 7pm for eyes-down at 7.30pm.

Soham Museum

On the evening of Thursday, March 14, a meeting was held in the Methodist Hall. The speaker was John Pryke from Fordham who gave an interesting talk called 'Fordham Back in Time'.

Donna Martin gave the vote-of-thanks. Tea ,coffee and biscuits were served and there was a raffle. The next meeting is on May 2. Coffee mornings are held each Saturday in Soham Library.

Phoenix Club

Chairman Sheila Abbott welcomed members and friends to the meeting in The Causeway on the morning of March 13. Sheila introduced the speaker for the meeting who was Ben Dallimore and his talk was entitled 'Everyone’s Health'.

This related to F.A.M.E. a falls management exercise  programme. The small exercise group exercise classes are designed to improve physical fitness, strength and balance.

These classes are a great way to meet people, receive support and build motivation. Classes are held weekly at the Lighthouse Centre in Ely.  Sheila gave the vote-of-thanks. Birthday greetings were sung to Sheila. Refreshments were served, followed by the raffle.

The next meeting is on Wednesday, April 10 when the speaker is the Rev Eleanor Whalley. Meetings are from 9.30am, for a 10am start.

Touchpoint

These weekly meetings now take place in the Guide and Scout Community Hall on the recreation ground. They are held on Tuesdays, from 1pm till 3pm. Everyone is welcome. Free tea and biscuits and lots of chat. This is a registered warm/community hub.

Over 60s club

On the afternoon of Friday, March 15, Richard Badcock welcomed everyone to the meeting in The Pavilion and gave out the announcements. Unfortunately, the speaker was not available and Yvonne Long organised a general knowledge quiz of 70 questions.

The winners were Brenda Rump's team with Fran Godwin’s team runners-up. They all received a small prize. Refreshments were served, followed by the raffle. The next meeting is on March  22 and members are invited to make Easter bonnets.

Soham Bowls Club

On the evening of Friday,  March 15, Richard Badcock welcomed everyone to the bingo evening in the club room. Richard was the caller, assisted by Pat Terry and Michael Galley checking the books. During the break for refreshment, Pat Terry organised the raffle.

The bowls green opens on Saturday, April 20 with a coffee morning starting at 10am. There will be a tombola, cakes, nearly new clothes a raffle, tea and coffee.

There will also be a 'come and try' bowls session. New members welcome.
