The Rotary Club of Ely has welcomed four new members.
Brian and Julie Key, Lilian Umeakumme and Hansel Awo were inducted to the club on March 7.
Hansel, an embedded systems engineer, said: “When we first learned about Rotary and its values of service, fellowship, diversity, and leadership, we knew that we had found a community that aligns perfectly with our own principles and aspirations.
“As we officially become members, we are excited to actively contribute towards making a positive impact and leaving a lasting legacy for future generations”.
Bryan and Julie Key are from southeast London and since retiring to the Ely area expressed their pleasure at being able to contribute to the community.
Bryan, a retired chartered accountant, said the pair were look forward to doing so through the activities organised by Ely Rotary Club
Julie, a librarian by trade, is currently also a volunteer at the Scope shop in Ely and has become a member of the Highfield Friends and Parents Association.
Viv Doji, president of the Rotary Club of Ely, said: “It’s always exciting to welcome new members into the Rotary Club of Ely. Since last July we’ve been on a mission to rejuvenate our club. We have changed our meeting location, time, and format.
“Since then, we have welcomed six new members into our club as well as an Honorary Member and an Associate member who decided to be full members.
“The induction ceremony is quite a relaxed but formal part of Rotary. In our club all members stand as the president introduces the new members and reads out what Rotary membership means. Our motto is ‘Service above Self. Then they are given membership badges and reintroduced as Rotarians.
“I’m delighted to welcome Lilian, Hansel, Julie and Bryan and know they’ll enjoy Rotary as much as I do.”
