Our Club of the Week is the City of Ely Bowls Club.
What do you do?
We play indoor and outdoor bowls.
Where do you meet?
We have a large club on Nutholt Lane which backs on to the Paradise car park, you can access the club from both Nutholt Lane and the Paradise.
How often do you meet?
We are open all week from 9am – 10pm.
Are you looking for new people to join the club?
Yes anyone can join at any age – bowls is especially good for people who need or want gentle exercise.
Do new people need any experience?
You don’t need to have any experience, we have plenty of people who will help you learn the sport, and whilst you are learning the ropes you can join in with organized matches, and practice on your own or with friends.
Are there any joining fees or membership costs?
For your first season indoors it is £20 and also £20 for outdoors. You can play either or both. We only charge £3.70 for a league game which is two hours or £2.20 for individual practice whenever you wish to play.
Do people need any special equipment?
You can wear whatever you wish to play in, you just need to have flat bottom shoes, trainers or deck shoes are fine. You can borrow the club’s bowls until you decide if the sport is for you.
A word from the club: "The club is a great place for people to just get out and have some gentle exercise in a social environment.
We have a lovely bar area where you can come to just watch as well if you are not playing or just fancy a drink. Many people stay for a chat and a coffee or a drink after their games. Our outdoor club will celebrating it’s centenary in 2025 and we are very proud of keeping people active in Ely for that length of time."
