Our Letter of the Week is from Ian Stewart who questions the decision to close Barclays Bank in Ely. Let us know what you think at: debbie.davies@newsquest.co.uk.
I find the Barclays Bank statement that “there are 24 customers who use the Ely branch exclusively for their banking needs” farcical.
The bank has for the last couple of years stopped people from using the counter services, instead forcing them to use the ATM machine.
The counter services were restricted to ‘business only’ customers. They would only have one person serving on the counter but numerous other staff directing customers to use the ATM.
It was obvious back then that they were planning to shut the branch.
Why can they not be up front instead of skewing the data?
Ian Stewart
Stretham.
