It seems that ever since it was established as a proper village with a mayor an’ all after fisherman Legge offered hospitality to an unexpected and incognito visitor, King Canute, Littleport’s charitable impulses are woven into the very fabric of its residents’ daily life.
And these are very often coupled with aspects of its other prominent characteristics such as fun and a liking for a bit of competition to name but two.
And, as Sara Alexander of the very hospitable and fun Crown Inn says, “everybody loves a quiz!”
Well, they have a fun quiz on Saturday 27 for £1 a person starting at 7.30pm.
Next Saturday, 20, cruise ship star singer Mandy Riley entertains. This Saturday (Jan 13) its bingo.
And Black Horse Drove Community Centre is holding a quiz on Friday 19 at 7.30pm for £2 per person, all welcome.
Littleport also cares for those who don’t necessarily live in the town who may be in need of support – and this Friday night, 12 Littleport’s Cathy Gibb de Swarte a veteran fundraiser of many a sponsored run - is holding a quiz for her 69th birthday in aid of Guide Dogs.
It’s being hosted by the Littleport Ex-Servicemen’s Club, and quizmaster, Littleport’s Chris Bennett will ensure the proceedings go with a swing, while her husband Michael with his guide dog Usher will demonstrate his skills during the interval.
Many local businesses have donated money or wonderful raffle prizes, including All Sacred Tattoo Parlour a £50 voucher, other vouchers are from Jurassic Bark in Saxon Park, and in Main Street, Habis (two breakfasts) Ali’s Kebabs, Happy House, The Bargain Centre and Erika’s Barbershop.
