There has been a rise in reported burglaries in East Cambridgeshire recently, especially car key thefts from homes and instances of deception-based distracted burglaries.
Whether you’re a victim or not, Cambridgeshire Constabulary say that staying vigilant against deceptive tactics is crucial.
The force has provided some tips to protect yourselves from burlgary below:
- Keep car keys, as well as other valuables, away from windows and doors, ensuring they’re not easily accessible or visible.
- Consider using a steering wheel lock or other visible deterrents to prevent car thefts.
- Install security cameras or alarms in driveways or garages to deter burglars.
- Verify the identity of unexpected callers, asking for identification or contacting the company they claim to represent.
- Keep doors locked, utilising door chains or viewers to communicate with visitors safely.
- Avoid giving out personal information or allow entry without thorough verification.
A spokesperson for Cambridgeshire Constabulary said: “Remember, if in doubt, do not hesitate to refuse entry and verify their identity thoroughly before letting anyone into your home or business.
