The city of Ely is preparing the finishing touches ahead of its community Christmas switch-on event this Friday (November 24).
Led by Ely Markets, volunteers alongside the City of Ely Council estates team have been decorating the city over the past few weeks, as well as the tree in the Market Place which is funded by the council.
The decorations will be switched on at 5.30pm on Friday and there will be a festive market taking place until 7pm.
There will also be late night shopping on the day, residents will be able to visit an eco-grotto, and there will be a performance from 4D Dance.
A spokesperson for the City of Ely Council said: "The tree has been sourced from Welford Christmas Trees. The lights are put up by staff and volunteers over several weekends.
"A great deal of work during the year goes into planning the lights and the council is grateful to all staff involved and to the volunteers who make it all possible."
Throughout December, Ely Markets will be hosting further festive events which are detailed below:
- Christmas craft, food, vintage and farmer’s market – December 23 from 8.30am until 3pm.
- Christmas Eve Sunday market – December 24 from 8.30am until 3pm.
These events will run alongside Ely Markets’ regular weekly craft, food and vintage, and Sunday food and gift markets on Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays.
