Ely City WI has been awarded the prestigious title of ‘most increased membership over the past year’.

Federation officers recognised the huge achievement and presented the silver salver at the November AGM.

President Sheila Willson said: “I am delighted that we have received this award. Our WI is continuously growing, so much so, we are having to move venue. With a rich and varied programme, we are always delighted to welcome new members."

With more than 50 members, there does not seem to be any slowing down. 

Plans are in motion for a big celebration in 2024 to mark 40 years of Ely City WI.

“This is going to be another busy year,” said Sheila.

“Our plans to mark the occasion are under way and we would love to have more members. If we can grow by 25 per cent in just one year, then with a bigger venue and varied programme we can expand even further."

Ely City WI is open to women over the age of 18 and has members from all walks of life. As a member you will have access to 11 main meetings a year, all of the sub-groups, a private social media groups and eight copies of the WI magazine. 

The last meeting of 2023 will be at 7.30pm at The Old Dispensary, St Mary’s Street, Ely, CB7 4ER on Monday, December 11.

If you would like to go along as a visitor to one or two meetings to see what the group is all about, then make contact with the WI. 

From January 2024, the WI will be moving to Bishop Laney Sixth Form, Downham Road, CB6 2SH and will meet at 7pm. The first meeting of 2024 will be on Monday, January 8.
