Two speakers gave an "inspiring talk" on youth activities at the Rotary Club of Ely last week.
Sarah-Jane West and Kerry Wallis talked about their Fire and Chill Group and the Butterflies school.
The Fire and Chill Group is a voluntary youth group founded in June this year and has developed into a gathering of more than 50 children from the community.
For £3, 25 to 30 of the young people gather to chill our by a camp fire, relax in hammocks, and explore the tree canopy using ropes carefully set up by the group's dedicated leaders.
Fire and Chill Youth Group's weekly sessions, run from Wednesday's 5,15pm to 7.15pm, when the youth leaders establish a tuck shop, offer engaging activities and games, and impart valuable bushcraft skills.
Those who attend learn to light and sustain fires, cook snacks over the flames, craft using tools, and master survival techniques such as shelter construction and whittling.
Other activities such as driftwood painting, creating natural face masks using food products, and designing the group's logo and strapline have also been enjoyed.
The group occasionally organises themed sessions. For instance, on November 1, they hosted a Halloween party, and the excitement continues with a Christmas disco scheduled for December 6.
The young members actively participate in planning trips and inviting special guests, such as the local animal encounters group and a self-defence teacher.
Fire and Chill Youth Group is a not-for-profit endeavour funded by the Witchford Parish Council.
The group's leaders represent a diverse blend of talents, including Forest School-trained educators, ex-military personnel, and experienced outdoor leaders.
Sarah-Jane said: “The Fire and Chill Youth Group stands as a sanctuary, offering young people autonomy, freedom, and opportunities to cultivate lasting friendships in a secure and nurturing natural environment after school."
