The call has gone out to primary schools and under 11 youth groups in Ely and surrounding area to take up the Ely Fireworks 'guy' competition challenge.

As in previous years, organisers of the annual event, Ely Community Events Team (ECET), will be featuring the competition as part of the activities taking place at Cherry Hill Park on Saturday, November 4.

There will be a display of 'guys' which will be judged by Ely mayor, Cllr Chris Phillips at 6 pm. The lighting of the bonfire is at 6.30pm and the fireworks start at 7pm.

There have always been some excellent and original entries and ECET would love youngsters to come up with some interesting ideas and to have fun creating and building a character 'guy'.

Entry forms are available via email: pr@ecet.org.uk or on the group's Facebook page.

"And the good news is," said Mike Judkins from the organising committee, "every group or school submitting an entry will receive a donation of £25, and for the chosen winner, the prize is £100."

Entrants are asked to bring their guys along, with completed form, to Cherry Hill Park between midday and 4pm on the day.

Advance tickets, in the form of wristbands, priced at £8 for adults, £4 for children, and £20 for a family ticket (two adults and two children) (under-fives are free) are available from:
