Littleport has been welcoming to incomers for many years, and those new settlers have also contributed greatly to the wellbeing and communal life of Littleport in equal measure, writes Lyn Gibb-de Swarte.
Many of its groups and organisations and businesses include those who were born - and bred - elsewhere, both in the UK and overseas.
Proprietors of the Plough and Harrow have acknowledged that in their multi-coloured and multi-lingual sign for the beer garden!
Their family orientated pub, at 61 Ely Road, has had rave reviews of its roasts, burgers and entertainment.
All ages are catered for in the town, and on Thursday afternoon (October 19), Littleport Town Council community worker for seniors, Kathryn Buck, hosts a social afternoon from 2pm-4pm. £3 entry at Littleport Village Hall. Contact: 07842325135
On Saturday afternoon, from 2.30pm-3.05pm there will be fun for all ages with the Musical Balloon Band organised by Katherine Hesketh at Littleport Library. Donation entry suggested from £2.
Also on Saturday, at Adams Heritage Centre, in conjunction with the Timebank, there is a free, 'Get Your Craft On’ with artist Sukie Hoyle. This takes place from 2pm-4pm. Take your own project to work on in friendly and interested company or learn a new skill. Contact: 01353 860140.
On Sunday, from 2pm-4pm there’s a spooky art event. No need to book, just turn up. And it’s all free. Accompanied by an adult, all kids are asked to help make the biggest spiders web ever, create with paints, paper, and make creepy crawly hand-made spiders and bats - all materials are supplied.
For a weekend night out on Friday, singer Tia Colcomb, of Bumbly Bees music group for 0-4year-olds (07885735908) and Kevin, entertain at the Swan at Sandhill Bridge, from 7pm.
On Saturday at Littleport Ex-Servicemen’s Club, we have Step Back playing ska, reggae and Motown. Members free, guests a fiver. Contact: 01353 860378.
