A by-election was held in Ely yesterday (September 21) for a new Ely North Ward councillor.
The previous incumbent Cllr Mary Robinson was co-opted to the post in May 2023.
Yesterday, people went to the polls within the North Ward of Ely Parish to choose from two candidates to become one of five elected members for North Ward – Ely Parish.
Ross David Trent (Liberal Democrats) and Adam Joshua Wilson (Labour Party) were nominated for election, with Ross David Trent being elected after he received 494 votes.
Adam Joshua Wilson received 196 votes.
The total number of votes cast was 708 and there was an 17.98% turn out for this by-election.
18 votes were rejected.
There are currently 15 members on The City of Ely Parish Council. These include three for Ely East Ward, five for Ely North Ward, one for Ely Cathedral Ward and six for Ely West Ward.
The City of Ely Parish Council has elections every four years, and the last elections were held in May 2023.
They hold a mayor making ceremony every year in May and the current Mayor is Cllr Chris Philip.
