A woman who "has the welfare and well-being at the heart of everything she does" was crowned 'Caring Companion' at this year's Ely Hero Awards.
Teresa Sellars, who lives in a Sanctuary development of bungalows and flats, occupied by the elderly, most of whom do not have family nearby, took home the title.
The judges said: "There is no doubt that Teresa is the person on the development who has the welfare and well-being at the heart of everything she does.
"Teresa is a great cake baker and started her support by just doing this for individuals and then for all the residents, with cakes for all on a Monday."
The other finalists in this category were Liz Norman and Daniel Apostol.
The judges said of all the finalists in this category: “The Caring Companion Category is always a highlight for the judges, meeting nominees who selflessly care for their community, families, friends or in the work place.
"The mix of nominees provide much needed social and emotional support for others, often becoming their life line.
"These selfless individuals are celebrated by this event and it is very much hoped they will encourage others to be such strong supports for others.”
The award was sponsored by Lovewell Blake.
