Mildenhall Fen Tigers beat Workington Comets 30-29 in a rain-soaked win after a heavy downpour of rain waterlogged the track and abruptly halted proceedings.
Luck was on the side of the Tigers, who had established a one-point lead ahead of the rain, meaning they took the win and the bonus point as the result stood.
Workington Comets have been beleaguered of late, including in a late-finishing two-match drubbing the evening before at Leicester, but were the epitome of plucky and were left cursing their misfortune at the turn of natural events which saw them going away from a match in which they'd led for five of the 10 completed heats, with nothing again to show for those efforts.
However, the win appears to have come too little too late for the Tigers, with only a highly unlikely stumble from the Oxford Chargers possibly handing the Tigers a route into the National Development League Play-Off spots.
Team boss Jason Gardner was soaked from a track walk to survey the damage but happy with the points and the display of his men.
"I'm very pleased to see us get over the line and get a win," he said
"To their credit, after a very difficult time for them yesterday evening, Workington put up a great performance and really pushed us.
"It was certainly unfortunate that the massive rain storm (which came from nowhere) spoilt what was looking like a good finish to the meeting, but having walked the waterlogged track, l was really struggling to stay upright, so there was no chance of riders turning a bike."

Two 5-1s for the visitors had set the Fen Tigers back on their heels, but stand-in skipper Alfie Bowtell, Ben Trigger and George Cogreve all secured victories to claw back the points and put the Tigers' noses in front.
The main focus will now turn to the Knock Out Cup on October 8, with the club's management and very active Supporters Group wanting to see a big crowd turn out for the final home meeting of the season v Leicester Lion Cubs.
