Cambridgeshire Constabulary's Rural Crime Team recently teamed up with the Environment Agency to look into four reports of illegal fishing near Ely.
"No fishing licence = equipment seized and reported," said a spokesperson for the force.
They added that "all the money raised through the sales of fishing licences is re-invested into improving and maintaining fisheries and angling".
