Although this weekend is the bank holiday, last weekend was full of holiday spirit.

Littleport’s England women’s football supporters packed out the Swan, Plough and Harrow, the Crown Inn and Ex-Servicemen’s Club, where the vicar of St George’s and her team attended after church, to cheer them on when they played the cup final game in Australia.

And although that result was disappointing, other sports events closer to home were cause for rejoicing.

Littleport’s Bowls Club women got a win! Playing in the nationals at Leamington they had already won the women’s senior pairs on Saturday. Linda Churchman and Cheryl Salisbury got the silver salver.

And Club team-mates, Linda Wright, Linda Churchman, Ginnie Marsh, Cheryl Salisbury (senior 4’s) and Lynne Papworth (two bowls singles) all competed this week.

Celebrations are in order too for rising national and international star 16-year-old Maddison Bourn of the Ely Roller Skating Club based at Littleport Leisure Centre.

She placed second in the British Figure Skating Championships in July and was picked for GB to skate in the European Cup for Figures in Italy next month.

The Leisure Centre is also the venue for Littleport parkrun with a good reason to party this bank holiday Saturday for its 200th meet!

Park runner Fiona Deem’s famous trifle will be there for the finishers! There’s a three-day launch event by new owners Scott and Dominic at the Plough and Harrow, CB6 1HJ.

Friday with cocktail demos by Sam Heap, Saturday family BBQ live music and face-painting, with Sunday roast dinners and live music in the evening.

Sara Alexander and Rob Clarey of the Crown host a bank holiday Monday treasure hunt charity fundraiser for Age UK. Starts in the car park at 2pm and it is £2 entry per child.
