The full moon had a red glow this weekend – and conditions were ideal for photographing it.
The ‘Strawberry Moon’ marks the start of the meteorological summer and star gazers were particularly looking forward to its display from Saturday evening.
Veronica Johansson Poultney, known as Veronica in the Fens on social media, was among the many photographers capturing the spectacular sight.
With Ely Cathedral standing prominently in the distance, she photographed the moon rising into the clear night sky. And there wasn’t a cloud to be seen.
It is thought the name ‘Strawberry Moon’ originated from Native American tribes, particularly those located in northeastern parts of North America.
The red colour of the full moon corresponded with the colour of ripened wild strawberries which were now ready to be harvested.
At last, summer has officially arrived!
