A woman who shaved her hair for Cambridge Breast Cancer Unit in December, raising over £800, presented a cheque to her consultant surgeon there last week.
Debbie Hitchings braved the shave at Emma and Co Hair Design in Soham on December 20.
She was diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer five years ago, and promised herself that if she made it five years in remission, she would do a fundraiser for the breast unit to say ‘thank you’ to them for saving her life.
Debbie raised an amazing £840 in total and presented the cheque to her consultant surgeon Mr Parto Forouhi at the breast unit at Addenbrooke’s on January 11.
She was joined by Julia Dilley, who supported Debbie throughout the whole of her journey, her daughter Alison Bishop and her two grandchildren Tilly and Teddy.
“I think everybody has a moment in their lives when they are so thankful and want to show how grateful they are to the people who helped them,” said Debbie.
“My day was today [January 11] and I will be eternally thankful for the care I received at the breast unit.”
She added: “They are such an amazing team of people who make you feel safe and cared for throughout your journey fighting breast cancer.
“It was very emotional saying goodbye to them but I’m also very proud of what I achieved for them as a big thank you.”
